OREGON — The Oregon City Council approved a $35,475 bid from Aurora Sign Company to replace four city welcome signs. The council originally considered replacing one sign for $18,525 but approved purchasing all four together to receive a lower overall cost. The city manager was authorized to sign the contract and oversee the work, while the council will have final approval of the designs. Council members discussed several options, including monument style signs with stone bases and signs mounted on poles. Members favored a design that would allow landscaping around the signs. Officials said signs located within state right of way must meet Illinois Department of Transportation requirements, including breakaway standards. Design concepts will return to the council for review before the signs are finalized.
