ROCHELLE — Drivers are reminded to use extra caution in and around school zones as students return to class. Drivers should slow down, follow posted speed limits and remain alert for children walking or riding bicycles near schools. Parents and guardians should use designated drop off and pickup areas and follow instructions from school staff to help keep traffic moving safely. Children should never be allowed to walk between parked or stopped vehicles.
Rochelle School Resource Officer James Jakymiw said, “ We just encourage people and our drivers to keep their eyes open and drive at a safe speed to be aware to the kids on their bicycles or e-bikes in the area so that we can all stay safe and get to school in a safe manner “
Drivers should avoid distractions, watch for crossing students and remain stopped until children have safely reached the sidewalk.
