SPRINGFIELD — The Illinois State Police increased enforcement efforts during the first six months of 2026 to address road rage and aggressive driving across the state, with six special patrol details on Chicago area expressways supported by troopers from statewide Special Operations Groups. State police said the patrols targeted dangerous driving behaviors such as speeding, tailgating, weaving through traffic, brake checking, and confrontations between drivers that can lead to crashes and violence. ISP Director Brendan F. Kelly said the agency will continue focusing on drivers who disregard traffic laws and put others at risk. Police also urged motorists to avoid engaging with aggressive drivers, give them space, and call 911 if they feel threatened or witness dangerous driving.
