ROCKFORD – A winter storm is expected to hit northern and central Illinois today. Forecasters say heavy snow will fall at times, with three to eight inches of snow possible. Matt Friedlein, with the National Weather Service, said this will be the first major event in the area this winter.
“It will be heavy at times in the afternoon and early evening, maybe even some rates near one inch per hour, and the total snowfall looks to be somewhere in the broad four to eight inch range, and I know that’s still a large range for people, but no matter what, it looks like a plowable snow, and we haven’t had many of those this winter, so that’s noteworthy in itself” he said.
A winter storm warning will be in effect in parts of the state, while a winter weather advisory will be in effect in others.
