September Marks Recovery and Suicide Prevention Awareness Efforts

DIXON — Sinnissippi Centers is highlighting September as both Recovery Month and Suicide Prevention and Awareness Month, urging the public to learn the warning signs of suicidal thoughts and connect loved ones with support. The Centers said more than 49,000 Americans died by suicide in 2023, while nearly 13 million reported suicidal ideation, according to the CDC. Risk factors include mental health disorders, substance use, chronic pain, family history, past trauma, or exposure to suicidal behavior. Warning signs may include isolation, hopelessness, increased substance use, and references to death.
