DEKALB — The 49th annual DeKalb Corn Fest will return to downtown DeKalb from Aug. 28 through Aug. 30 with three days of live music, carnival rides, family activities, food vendors and the annual Chuck Siebrasse Corn Boil. The free festival will feature more than 90 food and commercial vendors, a craft and kid area, community performances and a Saturday night concert by the Pop 2000 Tour featuring Chris Kirkpatrick of *NSYNC, O Town, Ryan Cabrera and LFO. Saturday will also include the traditional free corn boil with sweet corn from Wessels Farm, while Sunday’s schedule features family activities and live entertainment before the festival closes at 6 p.m.
“Corn Fest is not a success without over 300 volunteer slots. That is a lot of people doing from very basic things of helping people get in the right places to picking up stuff and putting down stuff,” volunteer co chair and board member Sara Myers said. “It’s a lot of fun. It’s a great way to connect with community and I highly recommend if you need some community service hours for work or an organization, it’s a great way to get it done in one weekend.”
Volunteer registration remains open through Aug. 14 so organizers can prepare schedules and order shirts for those helping with the festival.
