SYCAMORE — The DeKalb County Community Foundation has established the Samardzija-Gutesha Family Fund to honor the legacy of sisters Militsa and Mary Samardzija by supporting students and programs tied to agriculture, soil and water conservation, and community service. The fund provides scholarships for high school graduates pursuing agricultural or conservation studies, paid internships with farmers and conservation professionals, and grants for local organizations. In its first year, the fund awarded $65,000 in scholarships to students from DeKalb, Genoa-Kingston, Indian Creek, Somonauk and Sycamore high schools.
