Rochelle Recognizes National Police Week

ROCHELLE — Mayor John Bearrows has declared May 11th through May 17th as National Police Week in Rochelle to honor law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty and recognize officers serving in communities across the country. City officials said more than 24,500 officers in the United States have died in the line of duty since 1786. The proclamation also recognized the members of the Rochelle Police Department and noted that Peace Officers Memorial Day will be observed on May 15 with flags flown at half staff. National Police Week events across the country will include memorial services and the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund Candlelight Vigil in Washington, D.C.
