ROCHELLE – An 18-year-old Rochelle man is dead after an incident on I-39 early Saturday morning. Around 1:30 AM Rochelle Police began investigating a vehicle located in a cornfield near the intersection of South Creston Road and East Dement Road. About ten minutes later the Illinois State Police say they were called to the northbound lanes of I-39 near milepost 98 for a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle. Authorities say Brandon Cortes was transported to an area hospital and was later pronounced deceased. Cortes was a 2026 graduate of Rochelle Township High School. The incident is still under investigation.
