ROCHELLE – The Rochelle Area Community Foundation celebrated 20 years of philanthropy in Northern Illinois with a special event at their office on Wednesday.
RACF Executive Director Emily Anaya said it started with Leonard Carmichael.
“He’s a local farmer, homegrown, and he just wanted to do good. So just as he did with his farmland, he planted a seed, he nurtured the seed, and he watched it grow into this big, huge, beautiful field of corn and soybeans. He did that with the Community Foundation,” she said. “We have put almost $1.4 million back into this community right here. It hasn’t gone anywhere else.”
