Rochelle Approves Waiver For Purchase Of Electric Switchgear Equipment

ROCHELLE — The Rochelle City Council approved an ordinance waiving competitive bidding requirements for the purchase of three PME 11 pad mounted switchgear assemblies for Rochelle Municipal Utilities. City staff said the equipment is needed to support reliability, fault protection, and sectionalizing within the electric distribution system. Officials said the city standardizes on S and C Electric switchgear and that Universal Utility Supply Company is the sole authorized distributor for the municipal market in the greater Chicagoland area. The council approved the purchase of the standard enclosure option at $49,250 per unit for a total cost of $147,750. City staff said the standard option meets operational needs and reduces costs compared to stainless steel units. Delivery is expected in about 30 to 34 weeks.
