Raoul Warns Illinois Residents About Storm Repair Scams

CHICAGO — Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul is warning residents to watch for storm repair scams as communities recover from severe spring storms. Raoul said scammers often go door to door offering repairs or free inspections and pressure homeowners into making quick decisions. He urged residents to use established local contractors, get multiple written estimates, never pay the full cost before work is finished, and make sure roofers and public adjusters have the required state licenses. Raoul also reminded consumers that state law requires written contracts for home repair or remodeling jobs costing more than $1,000 and encouraged anyone who suspects fraud to contact law enforcement or the Attorney General’s Office.
