Raoul Urges Parent PLUS Borrowers To Consolidate Loans Before April Deadline

CHICAGO — Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul is urging Parent PLUS loan borrowers to consider consolidating by April 1 to keep access to income driven repayment plans and potential loan forgiveness. New federal rules will limit options for borrowers with unconsolidated loans or new loans after July 1, making most ineligible for income driven plans and Public Service Loan Forgiveness. Officials say consolidation can take months and borrowers should review their loans and avoid scams, noting federal loan services are free.
