CHICAGO — Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul joined a coalition of 16 attorneys general in filing a federal lawsuit this week against the Trump administration for halting enforcement of federal laws banning forced reset triggers (FRTs) and allowing redistribution of the devices. The lawsuit, filed in Maryland, argues the federal government cannot override federal gun laws through a settlement agreement. Raoul reminded Illinois residents that FRTs, which convert semi-automatic firearms into machine guns, remain illegal under state law and are frequently linked to violent crimes. The suit warns that redistributing these devices nationwide poses a permanent threat to public safety.
