DECATUR – A Purple Heart medal has been returned to the family of a D-Day survivor. Illinois Treasurer Michael Frerichs returned the medal to the brother and granddaughter of Army Private John L. Moore during a ceremony at the World War II Memorial in Decatur. Moore returned to Illinois in 1946 after surviving the 1944 D-Day invasion in Europe.
