Puppy Rescued in DeKalb Apartment Fire

DEKALB — A cooking fire Thursday morning at 830 Edgebrook Drive caused about $2,000 in damage and displaced a family of four, but firefighters were able to rescue a puppy from the smoke-filled apartment and reunite it with its owners. The fire began in the kitchen and was reported around 9:50 a.m., with flames showing when crews arrived. It was brought under control within 10 minutes with no injuries reported. Multiple fire units assisted with extinguishing the blaze, ventilating the building, and searching for occupants before the apartment was declared uninhabitable.
