MOUNT MORRIS — A pilot was killed Tuesday morning when a crop dusting plane crashed and caught fire near 2810 W. Illinois Route 64 in Mount Morris, according to the Ogle County Sheriff’s Office. Emergency crews arrived around 9:36 a.m. and found the aircraft fully engulfed in flames; the Mount Morris Fire Protection District extinguished the fire, and the pilot, who was the only person on board, was found dead in the wreckage. The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are leading the investigation, with officials continuing their investigation today. The crash also damaged seven utility poles and multiple ComEd power lines.
