OREGON — The Ogle County Board met Tuesday evening to consider several key issues, including elected official pay, zoning, facility updates, and updates from the Tri-County Opportunities Council.
The board approved a 2% salary increase for the Circuit Clerk for the upcoming fiscal year, raising the annual salary to $94,164. The increase follows recommendations from the HR and Risk Management and Finance Committees and complies with state statutes governing elected official compensation.
A Special Use Permit request from Wilan Villegas for a short-term rental at 4432 N. Illinois Route 2 in Rockvale Township was also approved. The property, located in the AG-1 Agricultural District on more than five acres, will operate as a Class 1 boarding house. The petition underwent a detailed review process, including approval by the Regional Planning Commission, initial denial by the Zoning Board of Appeals, and final approval by the ZBA before the County Board voted unanimously.
The board heard from Jill Calkins, president and CEO of the Tri-County Opportunities Council, about programs serving nine northwest Illinois counties. TCOC provides housing aid, energy assistance, weatherization, scholarships, and early childhood education programs, including Head Start. Calkins noted that federal budget negotiations could affect funding for these services, potentially limiting assistance to families and reducing early childhood education opportunities.
Facility updates were also discussed, including courthouse basement painting, roof repairs, and generator and lighting projects. The basement painting project has been approved, pending insurance decisions. Two roofing bids are under review, with a pre-bid meeting scheduled for Friday and a bid opening on September 24. Vinyl-look shingles may be used to preserve historical status. The board also reviewed the memorial project and discussed plans to relocate the Veterans Assistance Commission to the current Animal Control office space.
