DEKALB — Northern Illinois University will host its 118th Homecoming Sept. 29 through Oct. 5, featuring a variety of events for students, alumni, faculty, staff and community members. Highlights include the Third Annual Homecoming Kickoff on Sept. 29, a car show and block party in downtown DeKalb on Oct. 2, a concert at the Egyptian Theatre, Huskie Hour at Jonamac Orchard on Oct. 3, and the Homecoming football game against Miami (Ohio) on Oct. 4 at Huskie Stadium.
Cortney Strohacker Executive Director of the DeKalb County Convention and Visitors Bureau said the downtown party is the place to be.
“Everybody really gets into the Homecoming spirit,” she said. “It’s black and red, like a sea of black and red wherever you can see. When you go down there, you are in Husky Nation and you just are full of the Husky spirit.”
Jennifer Groce Director of Community Engaged Partnerships noted that the event at Jonomac Orchard on Friday is a don’t miss.
“Lots of fan favorites from NIU are all out there. You can expect to see great Husky swag,” she said. “You can enjoy some keeper glasses from the DeKalb County Convention and Visitor Bureau and Bold Spirits. And really, the coolest part is being able to be out there with fellow Huskies that just love NIU and love DeKalb.”
