SPRINGFIELD — Illinois House Minority Leader Tony McCombie is launching an essay contest for students in grades 6 through 12 in her 89th District as part of the lead up to America’s 250th anniversary. Students are asked to reflect on the nation’s history and future, including prompts about the next 250 years and what it means to be part of America’s story. Entries must be original, between 200 and 500 words, and include a parent or guardian release form. Submissions are due by May 31, 2026, and can be sent by email. The winner will be announced in June and will receive special recognition. Residents with questions can contact her district office.
