Lee County Honors Longtime Zoning Board After Six Decades of Service

DIXON — Lee County officials recognized the Zoning Board of Appeals for more than 60 years of service during their meeting last Thursday, noting its role in shaping development from 1961 to 2025. The board handled major projects including industrial growth, transportation work, and renewable energy sites such as wind and solar developments. Officials said the board balanced growth, property rights, and community interests while holding thousands of hearings over the decades. The county has now moved to a zoning hearing officer system. A plaque honoring the board will be displayed in the old courthouse.
