SPRINGFIELD – In honor of Distracted Driving Awareness Month, law enforcement agencies across Illinois are teaming up with the Illinois Department of Transportation and State Police to ramp up enforcement efforts. The campaign urges drivers to stay focused by putting away phones and avoiding distractions. Distracted driving caused 58 fatalities in Illinois last year. Officers will be actively ticketing violations, with the initiative funded by federal traffic safety funds through IDOT.
