LaHood Backs House Defense Bill for Fiscal Year 2027

WASHINGTON — U.S. Rep. Darin LaHood voted in favor of the Fiscal Year 2027 National Defense Authorization Act, a defense policy bill that authorizes about $1.15 trillion in national defense spending. The measure includes funding to rebuild the defense industrial base, replenish munitions, modernize military equipment, strengthen anti drone defenses, improve supply chain security, expand opportunities for small defense contractors, and provide a 5 to 7 percent pay raise for service members. The bill also includes a LaHood backed provision to prohibit the Defense Department from buying certain silicon carbide semiconductors made in China for noncommercial use and requires reports on domestic manufacturers and Chinese competition. According to LaHood’s office, the bill also includes the SAVE America Act, renames the Department of Defense as the Department of War, calls for a full financial audit within 24 months, and reduces nearly $30 million in what it describes as wasteful spending.
