OTTAWA — The La Salle County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a phone scam involving someone falsely claiming to represent the agency. Authorities said a caller used information about an arrest and told a family that bond had to be paid immediately or the person would be transferred to another facility and held for 30 days. The sheriff’s office said it will never call and demand payment to avoid a transfer, release, or other legal consequence. Residents who receive suspicious calls are advised not to provide personal information or send money and should contact the sheriff’s office directly to verify any claims.
