INDIANAPOLIS – It appears that Indiana is a step closer to becoming the new home of the Chicago Bears. The Indiana House of Representatives Ways and Means Committee voted today 24-0 to create a northwest Indiana stadium authority. The group would be authorized to issue bonds to finance, construct and lease a stadium for the Bears near Wolf Lake in Hammond. Meanwhile, Illinois legislators canceled a hearing this morning to cancel a hearing in Springfield on proposed legislation that could help keep the Bears in Illinois. A spokesperson for Governor JB Pritzker says the Bears requested that the Illinois meeting be halted. The team issued a statement that say the passage of State Bill 27 would mark the most meaningful step forward in out stadium planning efforts.
