SAVANNA — An Illinois native could be headed to space. NASA announced its new class of astronaut candidates yesterday. The list included U.S. Air Force Major Cameron Jones from Savanna, Illinois. The 35-year-old is one of ten candidates out of more than eight-thousand applicants across the county. He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in aerospace engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Jones recently reported to Johnson Space Center in Houston to begin nearly two years of training.
