Illinois Launches Film Tax Credit for Sustainable Production

CHICAGO – Governor JB Pritzker announced a new tax credit program that offers an additional 5% incentive for film and television productions that meet state sustainability standards. The program, administered through the Illinois Film Office within the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, makes Illinois the first state to provide a financial benefit for environmentally focused production practices. Officials said qualifying projects must meet benchmarks that reduce waste, lower energy use, and limit emissions through efficient equipment, transportation, and materials. The announcement comes as Illinois film production reached a record $703 million in 2025 and supported about 18,000 jobs. State leaders said the program is expected to strengthen the film industry, create new jobs, and increase demand for clean energy services while encouraging practices such as digital scripts, reusable materials, and reduced reliance on diesel power.
