Illinois Fire Marshal Opens $6 Million Small Equipment Grant Program

SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois State Fire Marshal’s Office has opened applications for its fiscal year 2027 Small Equipment Grant Program, which will provide $6 million to eligible fire departments, fire protection districts and nonprofit ambulance services. Grant awards have increased to a maximum of $50,000, up from $26,000. The program helps departments purchase firefighting and emergency medical equipment they may otherwise be unable to afford. During the previous grant cycle, nearly $6 million was awarded to 264 departments and EMS providers across Illinois. Applicants must meet certain requirements, including being compliant with NFIRS and NERIS reporting for the previous two years and being prequalified through SAM.gov and the State of Illinois Grantee Portal. Applications must be submitted electronically through the state fire marshal’s office.
