Illinois Diesel Prices Climb Above $6 Per Gallon

ROCHELLE — The average price for diesel fuel in Illinois has climbed above $6 per gallon to $6.02, according to AAA, while the average price for regular unleaded gasoline dropped slightly to $4.97 per gallon. One year ago, Illinois drivers were paying an average of $3.41 for regular unleaded and $3.53 for diesel. AAA said the national average for regular gasoline has increased by 25 cents for the second straight week and now stands at $4.52 per gallon, which is $1.40 higher than a year ago and the highest level since 2022 when prices reached $5.01 per gallon. Analysts said gasoline prices continue to rise because of concerns about global fuel supplies even as crude oil prices fell below $100 per barrel during negotiations involving the Strait of Hormuz. Average regular gasoline prices in northern Illinois were reported at $4.87 per gallon in Ogle County, $4.96 in Lee County and $4.95 in DeKalb County.
