SPRINGFIELD — Illinois farmers continued to see steady crop development during the past week according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Corn reached 8% silked, up from 1% the previous week and ahead of the five year average of 5%. The corn crop was rated 60% good to excellent, while 29% was fair and 11% was poor to very poor. Soybeans were 95% emerged, matching the five year average, while 17% were blooming and 3% had begun setting pods. The soybean crop was rated 55% good to excellent.
