CHICAGO – The Illinois Clean Jobs Coalition is pushing a bill that aims to protect Illinoisans from the impact of data centers. State Senator Ram Villivalam announced the introduction of the POWER Act. Proponents believe the measure establishes guardrails to ensure Big Tech pays its fair share, while protecting Illinois ratepayers from skyrocketing costs. Officials say a recent report from the Union of Concerned Scientists found that data centers will account for up to 72-percent of electricity demand growth in Illinois by 2030 and increased electricity system costs in the state by up to 37-billion-dollars by 2035.
