Illinois Attorney General Announces $773 Million Opioid Settlement Agreement With Albertsons

CHICAGO — Attorney General Kwame Raoul announced a $773 million agreement in principle with Albertsons tied to the company’s role in the opioid epidemic, pending final terms and business practice changes. The deal would apply in states where Albertsons operates, including Illinois, where it owns Jewel Osco and other grocery brands. State officials said the settlement is part of more than $50 billion in national opioid agreements, with Illinois receiving more than $1.4 billion to date. Raoul said the funds are intended to support efforts addressing opioid addiction and public health impacts. Final approval depends on continued negotiations over operating changes for the company.
