ILETSB to Expand Trauma-Informed Training Under Anna’s Law

SPRINGFIELD — The Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board will implement new training requirements under Anna’s Law, recently signed by the governor and effective Jan. 1, 2026. The law adds trauma-informed instruction to the training curriculum for new officers and makes it part of the ongoing in-service training every three years. It also directs the board to conduct or approve training focused on trauma-informed responses and investigations, especially involving victims of sexual assault and abuse. The changes are intended to improve how law enforcement interacts with victims and support more effective investigations statewide.
