ROCKFORD — The Illinois Department of Transportation will hold an open house on March 5 to provide updates on the Rebuild I-39 project through Rockford and Cherry Valley. The event at CherryVale Mall will include information on this year’s work to expand I-39 from four to six lanes between Harrison Avenue and U.S. 20, replace bridges, and improve interchanges. The $302 million project began in 2023 and is expected to be completed in 2028, with concurrent work to widen U.S. 20 and replace Kishwaukee River bridges scheduled for completion in 2027. Attendees can view maps, aerial photos, handouts, and speak with IDOT representatives, with materials also available online at RebuildI39.com.
