CHICAGO — Highland Elementary School in Stillman Valley and Blackstone Elementary School in Mendota will receive state funding through Illinois’ Safe Routes to School program. Governor JB Pritzker announced Friday that Meridian CUSD 223 will receive $3,100 for bike safety instruction at Highland Elementary in Stillman Valley. The City of Mendota will receive $250,000 for new sidewalks along 14th Avenue, seven ADA compliant curb ramps, high visibility crosswalks and other sidewalk improvements near Blackstone Elementary School. The Illinois Department of Transportation awarded $12 million statewide for 68 projects focused on improving safety for students walking and biking to school.
