High Number Of Teens Don’t Realize Dangers Of Fentanyl

CHICAGO –  A large number of teenagers are unaware of the dangers that synthetic opioid fentanyl poses.   That’s according to a new study published in JAMA Network Open.  The survey found that 52 percent of eighth graders don’t see great risk in trying fentanyl once or twice.  Even 30 percent of 12th graders don’t see great risk.  Researchers say the information is important to assess whether additional public awareness efforts are needed.  Stats show fentanyl is involved in three out of four youth overdose deaths, with it often mixed into other drugs.
