Gas Prices Steady as Travel Ramps Up for July Fourth Holiday

ROCHELLE – As temperatures rise ahead of the Independence Day holiday, gas prices across Illinois remain mostly stable despite brief oil market disruptions over the weekend. According to the American Automobile Association the national average for a gallon of regular gasoline stands at $3.22, up two cents from last week but still 27 cents lower than a year ago. In Illinois, prices show some variation, with Ogle County matching the national average at $3.22, Lee County slightly lower at $3.18, and DeKalb County higher at $3.38. The short-lived jump in oil prices following U.S. airstrikes did not lead to lasting changes at the pump, as 61.6 million Americans prepare to travel for the holiday.
