Gas Prices on the Rise Across Northern Illinois

CHICAGO – Gas prices have risen across Northern Illinois, with Lee County averaging $3.16 per gallon, Ogle County at $3.20, and DeKalb County at $3.31. The national average also saw a slight increase of 4 cents, reaching $3.12, according to the American Automobile Association. Despite crude oil prices remaining under $70 a barrel, the seasonal switch to summer-blend gasoline, which is more expensive to produce, is driving the increase. Gasoline demand has decreased, and gasoline production rose slightly, averaging 9.6 million barrels per day. The national average is still about 40 cents lower than a year ago.
