Gas Prices Continue To Rise

SPRINGFIELD – The national average for a gallon of regular gasoline has climbed nearly 5 cents to $4.46, the highest national average ever recorded for this time of year. Gas prices typically decline at the start of autumn, but volatility in the Strait of Hormuz and high crude oil prices are pushing prices higher. The national average for September is $4.30, which is already above the previous September record of $3.83 set in 2023. In the local area, the average price is $4.65 per gallon in Ogle County, $4.66 in Lee County and $4.74 in DeKalb County. The Illinois average was $4.76 on Tuesday.
