DAYSVILLE – A fire at a home on the 2010 block of South Second Street in Daysville sent one person to a Rockford hospital with burn injuries. Oregon Fire Chief Michael Knoup said the fire broke out around 11:40 AM Wednesday. Reportedly the occupant was sleeping on the couch when the fire, which began in the bedroom, woke them up. The resident made their way outside by the time firefighters arrived. They were transported to Saint Anthony’s Hospital. The fire caused extensive damage to the home, which was heavily gutted. Firefighters from multiple departments, including Rochelle, Stillman Valley, Byron, and others, responded to the scene.
Chief Knoup wanted to stress the importance of having working smoke detectors in a home.
“It’s always important to make sure you have working smoke detectors in the home and the new ten year lithium batteries ones are required by law now and they will save lives,” he said Wednesday.
No injuries were reported among the firefighters. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s Office and does not appear suspicious.
