DeKalb Man Facing Felony Firearm Charges

DEKALB – A 24-year-old DeKalb man was arrested after police said he was involved in a shooting on the 100 block of North 10th Street late Wednesday morning. Officers responding to multiple 911 calls reportedly recovered five 9mm shell casings from the roadway after those involved fled. Police said the man, identified as John O. Contreras was taken into custody Thursday during an operation in the area of South 7th Street by the DeKalb Police Department and DeKalb County Special Operations Team. He faces multiple felony charges, including aggravated discharge of a firearm, unlawful possession of a firearm by a street gang member, and possession without a Firearm Owner’s Identification Card or concealed carry license. He was transported to the DeKalb County Jail ahead of a pretrial hearing.
