DEKALB — A DeKalb man was charged after police said he shot another man during an attempted robbery Wednesday evening at 1053 Ridge Drive. DeKalb Police said officers responded around 6:44 p.m. for a report of two men chasing each other with firearms. Police said 34 year old Michael E. Cotton fled from officers while carrying a gun before tossing the loaded weapon and being taken into custody. Officers also recovered suspected cocaine during the arrest. Investigators said a 42 year old man was shot multiple times in the leg during the incident and taken to a hospital for treatment. Detectives said the victim reported Cotton attempted to rob him inside an apartment before gunfire broke out. Cotton was charged with armed violence, aggravated battery with a firearm, attempted armed robbery, unlawful possession of a weapon, unlawful possession of a controlled substance and obstructing a police officer.
