DeKalb Launches Year-Long America 250 Celebration With Community Events

DEKALB — The America 250 DeKalb Committee held its February meeting at the DeKalb Elks Lodge to plan a series of events marking the nation’s 250th anniversary. The community-driven group includes local military veterans, service and nonprofit organizations, businesses and government units. Planned activities include an expanded Fourth of July fireworks display, public art projects downtown, new flag-themed banners and flower plantings, and monthly presentations at city council meetings highlighting Americans who embody the nation’s spirit. Participating organizations are hosting additional events, including patriotic story readings, a bike decorating contest, free breakfasts for veterans, tree plantings and a blood donation challenge. Community members, businesses and organizations can join events or organize their own through the America 250 DeKalb calendar.
