CHICAGO — The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services has awarded scholarships to 347 current and former youth in care through its annual DCFS Scholarship Program. Recipients were honored last week during a luncheon in Chicago celebrating their achievements and future academic plans. The scholarships include up to five years of tuition and fee waivers at Illinois public colleges, vocational schools, and community colleges, along with monthly stipends, a start-up grant, help with school supplies, and Medicaid coverage. The program is open to youth currently in DCFS care, those adopted or placed under guardianship, and those who aged out of the system at 18 or older. This marks the third consecutive year of increased scholarship awards, following 352 in 2024 and 259 in 2023.
