ROCHELLE – Power should be restored today to everyone who was in the dark after a powerful storm galloped across northern Illinois on Friday night. Wind gusts over 60 mph were recorded at Rockford airport, as the Rochelle area witnessed over a dozen power poles toppled and hundreds without electricity. In DeKalb county, some farm buildings were damaged and two destroyed by Somonauk. Locally, Flagg Road was closed Saturday after 14 poles fell. Blake Toliver, Superintendent of Electrical Operations and Generations with RMU said that they received assistance from Batavia and St. Charles, but the grid took some abuse.
“Those straight line winds that came through did a number on our system,” he said” “So we have a lot of things just kind of hanging on by a thread right now. All I ask is please be patient with the crews. They are working on little sleep and doing the best they can to get everybody back in power.”
