CRESTON — The Creston Village Board approved an updated agreement with Rochelle Municipal Utilities for wastewater services, including maintenance of the village’s two lift stations. The rate adjustment reflects recent salary increases from a union contract while keeping the same services in place. Adam Lanning, superintendent of water and water reclamation for Rochelle Municipal Utilities, told village officials the city treated about 22 million gallons of Creston wastewater over the past year and billed the village about $93,000 for the service. Creston’s wastewater rate will increase about 3.1% in August, moving from $2.87 to $2.96 per 100 cubic feet. Lanning said Rochelle has completed about $20 million in wastewater treatment plant improvements over the past five years, including upgrades to meet future phosphorus removal regulations. Officials also discussed ongoing efforts to reduce stormwater entering the sewer system during heavy rains, which can increase wastewater flows.
