Cortland Police Chief to Retire After 38 Year Career

CORTLAND — Cortland Police Chief Lin Dargis will retire from law enforcement effective Aug. 10 after a 38 year career, including the past 11 years as the town’s police chief. Dargis thanked the department, village leaders, staff, community partners and residents for their support, saying serving the community has been one of the greatest honors of his career. Mayor Mark Pietrowski said the Village Board will consider appointing current Police Commander Bruce VanWankum as interim police chief at Monday’s meeting following Dargis’ retirement.
