Chicago man Sentenced to 8 Years for Felon Weapon Possession

OREGON  – A 24-year-old Chicago man pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, a Class 2 felony, in an Ogle County Courtroom Wednesday, and was sentenced to eight years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. John D. Carew was stopped on Interstate 39 in March 2025 for driving with a revoked license. A trooper found a stolen handgun, cannabis, and items linking him to the weapon. Carew was on parole with prior felony convictions.
