BYRON — The Byron City Council unanimously approved the city’s audit for the fiscal year ending April 30, 2026, on Wednesday night. Lindsey Fish of Sikich presented the audit, which received a clean opinion, meaning the city’s financial statements fairly presented its finances under applicable accounting standards. The audit identified a repeat material weakness involving the separation of financial duties, an issue that can affect smaller governments with limited finance staff. The auditor reported no fraud or material misstatements. Another finding involved sales tax paid on some credit card purchases, even though the city is tax exempt. City staff have adopted a credit card policy and will remind employees of the tax exemption. The auditor also discussed additional reviews and approvals that could help reduce risks tied to the city’s limited staffing.
