Authorities Warn of Dangerously High Heat

CHICAGO – With dangerously high heat forecasted in Illinois, the Illinois Department of Public Health urges residents to take precautions against heat-related illnesses. Prolonged heat exposure can lead to serious health issues like heat exhaustion and heatstroke. Vulnerable groups, including young children, pregnant women, and the elderly, should be checked on regularly. Stay in air-conditioned places, wear light clothing, and stay hydrated by drinking water frequently. Avoid unnecessary sun exposure during peak heat hours. Recognize heat stroke symptoms such as high body temperature, difficulty breathing, and dizziness, and call 911 if they occur. Protect yourself from sunburn by using sunscreen and wearing protective clothing, and ensure pets have plenty of water and are not left in parked cars.
